Online Classes

Drop-In Classes for Brazilian Zouk Dancers

When the pandemic hit, I knew I had to do something to keep my international dance family motivated, moving, and improving. In March 2020, I began offering daily classes live online and with gratitude to my incredible students we made it all the way through June 2021!

Now that I've returned to teaching in person both at home and around the US, I am not able to maintain my daily schedule of live classes. That said, I know how much my online classes mean to my students around the world and I don't want to take that away from you! My updated program now includes: live virtual classes on Wednesdays, on demand access to your favorite class recordings, and all new virtual courses as part of Newport Zouk University Online. Move the furniture, catch me in your city, and stay tuned for weekly updates on social media as we head into this next chapter of our dance journeys.

Brazilian Zouk Foundations for Leads and Follows
20-25 minutes of conditioning for Zoukers followed by body movement, styling, and footwork drills to improve your Brazilian Zouk foundation. We end each class with a short combo you can practice to any song on your own.
Head Movement Training
Experience my unique series of progressive exercises developed to build safe, comfortable, and creative head movement. Class themes vary and technique applies to Leading and Following.
Contemporary Techniques for Zoukers
Learn new solo dance techniques to expand your dance toolbox and approach to developing personal style in your social dancing. These classes have included: ballet technique, dancing in 3/4 time, Graham contraction and release, Gaga movement methodology, Bartenieff Fundamentals and floorwork.
Contemporary for Zoukers: Discover Your Magic
This class begins with a 30-minute jazz warm up including isolations, cardio, conditioning, body movement, and ballet technique. We then learn a short combo incorporating Zouk footwork, head movement, contemporary dance vocabulary, and often floorwork (I love the floor). Through this short combo, we explore emotions, styling, theme and variation, and storytelling to give steps we know a whole new life.  Discover your magic solo dancing so you can bring it to your social dancing!
Head Movement Improvisation Techniques
Take your solo Zouk training to the next level with improvisation techniques that locate head movement as a natural element of your dancing from the feet up. These classes often use the floor and walls as partners.
Mechanics of Flow
This non-stop restoring, mobilizing, and strengthening class for Zoukers and crossover dancers promotes healthy sequential motion through the spine, core strength, hip mobility, and foot dexterity. In addition to finding more ease and simplicity in Zouk head movement, body movement, and hip motion, you will also feel rejuvenated and ready to take on your day. (These classes were developed as weekly Sunday morning classes and they go really well there. Just saying :)

Frequently asked Questions

What are daily drop-in classes?
A ballet dancer knows that every day begins in a dance class. The purpose of these classes is to build and maintain strength, gradually increase mobility, and prevent injury while also learning new information. The purpose of my drop-in classes is to provide daily training for social dancers with an emphasis on tools used in Brazilian Zouk dancing. There are no series and no levels, so drop in as you like (or every day!) and design your own training program to achieve your personal dance goals.

What is Contemporary Dance?
Contemporary is a dance style that combines elements of dance techniques from around the world on a foundation of classical ballet. My style is a fusion of ballet, modern, jazz, improvisation, and Brazilian Zouk.

What is the class platform?
Live classes are offered on Zoom.  When you sign up you automatically receive a link to the Zoom meeting. Be sure to pay by the start of class to be admitted from the waiting room.

What if I can't make it live?
Recordings are emailed to monthly subscribers and all students who sign up following each class. The links expire in 24 hours, so if you can't join us live, be sure to catch the recording before it's gone! Occasionally I need to send pre-recorded classes, so keep an eye on our student Facebook chat for announcements and updates.

What do I need to bring to class?
We move continuously for 60 minutes, so dress like you would to workout, bring a yoga mat or towel, and have some water handy. Please bring an armless chair, yoga mat if you have one, and a towel to class on Sunday.
